2010 Rising Sun, Indiana • Art Workshops
Creativity takes courage. Henri Matisse 1869 - 1954
MARCH 27 & 28 -- Linocut: Creating Art Prints Or Stamps – Bob Saueressig
From masters such as Matisse and Picasso, this age-old method of
creating relief prints has maintained its popularity.
Using your own drawing or photo’s, you will create a custom print (or stamp for use on other work.)
After exploring the fundamental materials and tools, Bob will take you through the various techniques
to transfer your image, show you the basic methods of cutting linoleum
blocks and how to use water-soluble inks.
Unlike woodcutting, the soft linoleum surface is easily carved -- you’ll be amazed at
how easily you can master this process to create unique art. For Beginner to Advanced
APRIL 17 & 18 – Vibrant Landscapes: Colored Pencil, Wax & Oil Pastel – Pat Averill
Many artists are overwhelmed by the complexity of a landscape
and get lost in it before they even start!
In this workshop, you will learn how to simplify a complicated scene
and combine colored pencil
with oil pastel and crayons to speed up the process and intensify colors.
Pat will demonstrate each step – from strokes and textures to how to examine colors,
values and temperatures of light and shadow.
You may work from reference photo’s provided or bring your own in this hand-on workshop.
Pat’s personal attention and critiques, along with structured exercises
and discussions will guide you through the process. For Beginners to Advanced.
MAY 22 & 23 – Plein Aire: The Intimate Pastel Landscape – Ron Monsma
This two-day workshop will focus on painting small plein air landscapes in pastel.
You will learn to create these ‘little gems’ in one sitting – in a somewhat impressionistic manner
- and to record your immediate impression of the subject in a simplified manner.
Ron will cover: establishing a composition, beginning a painting, simplification, color
and value, atmospheric effects, painting convincing space, how to know when you are finished.
(Bad weather means we’ll work indoors from photo’s.) For Beginner to Advanced.
JUNE 5 & 6 –- Painting Dynamic Flowers with Acrylics – Ken Landon Buck
This workshop is designed for both beginners and those who may have
“let the brush go dry” but are ready to paint again.
Basic instruction in materials will be covered and you will explore a variety of techniques
to create luminous flower paintings from reference photo’s.
You may choose from images provided for you or you may bring your own.
You will learn how to work from thin glazes of color to thicker applications of paint
and explore the creative process to capture this organic subject.
Regardless of your experience, this workshop is for the serious, but Ken also makes it fun.
Be prepared to be a “sponge” and absorb the tips, tricks, and techniques Ken will share with you.
For Beginners to Advanced.
AUGUST 21 & `22 – Photography: How To Get Dramatic Pictures From Your Digital Camera -- Robin Goetz
Come prepared to “Open your eyes and see the light.”
Working from bad reference photographs usually results in bad paintings.
This workshop will teach you how to shoot dramatic references for your artwork
and is designed to take you through the controls, features and functions of your digital SLR camera.
Robin shares his many years as an award-winning photographer and covers a wide range of topics
to make you more adept with your camera and get the results you want.
Everything from the camera basics to advanced lighting sources & equipment,
creating moods & drama, copying artwork and much more.
Lighting equipment can be expensive, so you'll learn how to create light sources
& reflectors using inexpensive, common materials.
A sturdy tripod and a Digital SLR camera and lenses are highly recommended
(although advanced point & shoot cameras with flash turned off will work.)
Camera instruction manual needed. For Beginners to Advanced.
YOU WILL RECEIVE A SUPPLY LIST & LOCATION SITE WITH YOUR CONFIRMATION
